IMPHAL, November 18: A one day Electricity Awareness Campaign and Public Hearing was today held at Cambridge Higher Secondary School, Khergao jointly organized by Mass Education and Social Development Organization, Khumudok Umang Leikai, Imphal East with Leiyaibi Memorial Charitable Trust, Langmeidong Manipur under the sponsorship of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram.
P Arunkumar president, Consumer Club Manipur attended as chief guest while Dr H Romen, Asst secretary of People’s Resource Development Association Bishnupur and Bishnupur Correspondent of Imphal Free Press presided over the programme with AK Sanatomba, general secretary of MESDO and W Amusana Devi of ETMCT, Hiyanglam, S Robindro, vice-principal of the school and Th Ngouba, chief Trustee of Leiyaibi Memorial Trust Langmeidong attending as guests of honour respectively.
P Arunkumar said in his speech that the service providers will make more profit as consumers do not know their right, adding that the service provider will send bill for the whole month without supplying electricity which is not proportionate to the bill.
He further said that every consumer should know where to complain adding that this awareness programme will enlighten the consumers and help them in the future.
During the programme, Dr H Romen said that people tend to forgot to switch off electrical appliances after use.
He also mentioned that the service provider do not care to connect or disconnect and failed to repair transformers and even short circuits at times.
The public also need to be aware of how to use electricity and how and where to complain, he said before adding that such awareness programmes will be very beneficial to the public as well as for the service providers.
Teachers, students and guardians of the school, public leaders, and representatives of different NGOs from different part of the state, resource persons trained in the field attended the programme.
There was also an interaction session and public hearing in connection with the programme which was the main event of the programme.
