IMPHAL, November 27: At the recent ICAAP 11 held at Bangkok, Thailand from the November 18-22, Dr l lbohalbi, MLA and member of Manipur Legislators Forum on HIV/AIDS (MLFA) was invited as a speaker.
The event was sponsored and supported by the UNAIDS.
In the first session on November 20, organized by Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population & Development engaging parliamentarians, pursuing development and UNAIDS was chaired by minister Cook Islands, Nandi Glassie.
The speakers included president of Fiji and former AFPPD vice president,
RatuEppeiiNailatikau, Tarana Halim, Bangladesh MP; Dr l lbohalbi Singh, Member of Legislative Assembly, Manipur and Levi Rengma, Deputy Speaker, Nagaland.
Dr l lbohalbi spoke about the activities and achievements of the Manipur Legislators Forum on HIV/AIDS (MLFA) since its inception on June 30, 2007.
Giving more insight to the formation of the forum, he stated that the Chief Minister gave his commitment and dedication to mitigate the epidemic and declared a sum of INR one Crore for the year 2013-14 towards the MLFA activities.
Throwing more light on region specific information, he shared the existing scenario of HIV/AIDS in the north east India.
He further emphasized on getting to Zero- in line with the Millennium development Goal (MDG) of achieving triple zero.
During the second session in evening on the “Symposium of Panorama-HCV (hepatitis C virus) and PWID (People with injecting drugs) in Asia: Strategies for treatment scale -up”, organized by the Indian Harm reduction Network (IHRN) India, supported by UNAIDS India, Dr l lbohalbi Singh chaired the session for Dr SwarupSarkar’s (UNITAID), session on “Demand Generation, Resources Mobilization and National Strategic Planning for PWID Access”.
