IMPHAL, November 7(NNN): The 14-hour Manipur bandh given by the joint action committee (JAC) demanding justice in the Hawaibam Meghachandra killing on Thursday partly paralysed the Imphal-Moreh road.

Bandh supporters damaged at least three vehicles in Singjamei bazaar and Kakwa areas. However, the strike failed to evoke response except on the National Highway-2 section from Singjamei to Lilong bazaar. It ended peacefully.

Meghachandra, 51, president, Raising Club, Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong in Imphal West district who had gone missing since the night of November 4, was found dead in the Imphal River section of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai Water Supply the next morning. He got two shots-one in the chin and another in the forehead.

T Sharat, convenor of the JAC told NNN that it would continue to carry on with its protest until the accused are brought to justice. He informed that a mass rally will be taken out from Lilong bazaar tomorrow to submit a memorandum on the death to the Chief Minister.

He reiterated that the JAC will not claim the dead body of Meghachandra unless the state Government fulfills all the demands without delay.
