Mother-infant duo, boy killed in road mishaps on Chakkouba

IMPHAL, November 6: Accidents caused due to rash driving claimed the lives of a woman and her nine-month-old infant son and a boy in two separate incidents yesterday.

The accidents happened along the Indo-Burma-Sugnu Road and the Imphal-Moreh stretch of the National Highway No 2 respectively.

According to reports, a speeding Tata truck hit a Honda Activa in which a couple and their two children were travelling. The woman and the infant were killed on the spot while her husband and their seven-year old daughter survived the impact with minor injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Mayenglangbam ongbi Echan alias Sajita, 36 and her son as M Abungo alias Zinpin and the survivors as Usharanjan and their seven-year-old daughter Unita of Kha Naorem Leikai. The incident occurred at Lilong Ushoipokpi under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district when the family was returning home after attending Ningol Chakkouba feast at Sajita’s parental home in Thoubal Bamon Leikai.

Police have reportedly seized the Tata Truck involved in the accident and took up a case.

Meanwhile, a speeding Diesel Auto knocked down a five-year-old boy identified as Sapam Sanathoi, son of S Gojendro of Kakching Khonou Tongbam Maning Leikai who was walking along with his mother at Pangaltabi Chairen Thongkhong under Sugnu police station, killing the boy at the spot.

Police also informed that the diesel auto while trying to escape hit a 10-year-old boy identified as Khumukcham Nivaraj of Kakching Uchan Makhong Leikai.

Nivaraj is presently is undergoing treatment at Kakching Rural Hospital, while the auto bearing regd no MN01-Z-3364 has been seized and the driver arrested by the police.

The police have also taken up a case in this regard.

All the dead bodies have been handed over to the family members after post mortem was conducted at JNIMS Morgue today.
