IMPHAL, November 3: Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam, while terming the spurt of bomb blast in Imphal as unfortunate, assumed that the attack could have been the handiwork of militants operating in the state.
Speaking to media persons this evening at his official residence at Babupara, Gaikhangam stated that the modus operandi was very clear, adding that the material used in the explosion and timing can corroborate to his theory.
Clarifying on the delay in the cracking the cases (blasts incidents) on the part of the police department, he revealed that the department is reeling under shortcomings in some fundamental areas.
Elaborating further, the Deputy CM who also holds the Home department maintained that department has been furnished with equipment that can track CDMA and WLL calls. However, he informed that a proposal has been tabled to the finance department for acquisition of the required items.
Implying that the recent bomb attacks could have been a reciprocation to the recent arrest of top UGs cadres, the Deputy CM further observed that important tasks of the attack were outsourced through some undetected medium.
Conceding that the some CCTVs installed in Imphal areas are not serviceable, he asserted that it will be made functional at the earliest.
In order to rectify challenges to the prevailing law and order of the state, Gaikhangam informed that a security review meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Manipur will be conducted tomorrow, mainly to reevaluate the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Meanwhile, reacting to the attack launched by BJP on the government, he termed the statement as irresponsible. Rather than giving positive suggestions they are supposedly encouraging the one-sided work of anti-social elements, he said.
BJP should retrospect on the chaotic situation in states ruled by BJP, before making irresponsible comments, opined Gaikhangam.
