Central team arrives to scrutinise border impasse post Tamu rally

IMPHAL, December 27: A three member official team sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs has arrived at the State today to scrutinise the current impasse of the Indo-Myanmar border issue.

The team are officials sent by the Surveyor General of India and will meet the Chief Minister and other delegates of political parties of the State at the CM Secretariat at 1 pm tomorrow.

The meeting has been called by the CM to discuss the current imbroglio of border encroachment.

It may be mentioned that the international border at Moreh was sealed off on December 24, following a public rally when Myanmarese civil bodies, Tamu Youth Network and Chindwin Youth Network demonstrated the building of the integrated check post at Moreh.

The civil bodies had also mentioned that the construction work at border pillars number 77, 78 and 79 need to be halted and there are also another nine border pillars which are controversial.

From the Indian side, several visits have been conducted to inspect the border controversy and a visit on November 7 last had included members of the Surveyor General of India, BRO officials, Shambu Singh who is the joint secretary in charge of northeast.

Shambu had also stated that the Union government will invite authorities from Myanmar for a bilateral meeting by the end of the year or first week of next year.

The border issue is a confusion of border pillars or fencing dividing villages, Shambu had mentioned.
