IMPHAL, December 24: Today evening at around 5:30 pm, a fire broke out and razed a official residence of a doctor at RIMS’ quarter at Lamphelpat.
The fire was suspected to be ignited from a car which was parked in a garage adjacent to the quarter. Fire –fighters of the Manipur Fire Service rushed to the spot and struggled hard to douse the blazing flames along with locals, security personnel of RIMS, police and CRPF personnel. Finally, the fire was subdued totally at around 6:30 pm.
The quarter being No.5 Type-V situated at Lamphelpat, north of RIMS campus was occupied by one Dr. Vishnu Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of Dental, RIMS originally from Bihar. Almost all the furniture and other items inside the rooms of the quarter including the kitchen and garage were burnt to ashes.
A Hyundai i20 car and a Honda Activa scooter were also irrecoverably burnt while police personnels dragged out a piping hot domestic gas cylinder out of the kitchen preventing it from exploding.
Another gas cylinder which was less affected was also dragged out.
At the instance of reporting, the cost of the damages could not be ascertained.
The officials of the fire service cautioned the public to be very careful and on strict vigil during the dry wintery season which is most prone to outbreak of fires in order to prevent such untoward incidents in future.
