Health sector needs to keep pace of modernisation: VC

IMPHAL, December 3: The fifth foundation day and Lamp Lightning Ceremony, 2013 of the College of Nursing, of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was celebrated today at Jubilee Hall of the hospital.

Addressing the function as the chief guest, vice chancellor, Manipur University, professor H Nandakumar stressed that the students of the college should be role models of the society.

He added students should serve every patient with care and compassion.

The first ever government college of nursing in the world was established in the year 1781 for a six month course, he said before adding that the dedication of the nurses in their duties and in spreading awareness had been instrumental in reducing abortion in the state.

He further elaborated that with the implementation of the Look East Policy, the medical sector in the state need to be upgraded and modernized.

Nursing is an integral element of the healthcare system and the College of Nursing, RIMS was started in 2009 with an aim for higher education in the nursing profession, he said.

The college is affiliated to the Manipur University, he continued.

He further expressed satisfaction over the plan of the college to introduce M Sc Nursing and other courses soon.

Director Regional Institute of Medical Science, Prof S Sekharjit Singh said that the nurses should be able to take their service to all corners of the land.

He further assured all possible efforts needed to introduce M         

Lauding the efforts of the students, he praised them for their performances as encouraging and commendable.

The RIMS authority has provided the entire requirement in their studies to get their goal, he said.   

The programme was colorful as the whole batch of students in their uniforms, marched to the rythym of melodious songs making the atmosphere an enjoyable one.

The Lamp Lighting ceremony of the institute symbolizes the passing of knowledge and igniting the souls of the budding nurses with the ideals of compassion and care.

Principal of the college of Nursing, H Jamuna Devi led the first year students during the oath taking ceremony of first year students.

A prize distribution ceremony was also witnessed during the celebration.
