Local clubs shape youths

IMPHAL December 14: The 52nd anniversary celebration of the Social Welfare Club, Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangthem was held today at the club premises. During the celebration, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of the founder of the club, late Ch Rajmohan.

The Golden Jubilee celebration was attended by social worker and founder secretary of Little Master English Higher Secondary School Moirangmayum Thoiba as the chief guest, retired senior auditor of the AG Manipur Huidrom Tomba as the function president and president of the All Manipur Working Journalist Union W Shamjai and president of National Highway 53/37 Truck Owners’ Association K Inaoba as the guests of honour

Giving the key note address of the celebration, the president of SWC, Ch Loken said under the leadership of Rajmohan, the club was established in the year 1961 to work for the welfare of the people in and around Thiyam Leishangthem area. Till today the club has participated in all major issues pertaining to the state, he said.

Giving the speech of guest of honour, Inaoba said the executive members should work sincerely for welfare of the club and understanding the purpose and values of a club as it is a place where the foundation of young children are laid for pursuing their future in the field of sports, arts and culture etc, he added. Inaoba also talked about the importance of having a club in every locality in controlling drug abuse there and inculcating good habits and manners.

President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union W Shamjai stated that the locals club took a major role in bringing development and stability in every locality. It also served as an ideal place for exposure of hidden talents among youths, he said.
