Seminar for Pena promotion inaugurated

IMPHAL, December 21: A seven-day lone workshop seminar and festival on Pena Phamshak: Khongul Liba jointly organised by the department of Arts and Culture and Easter Zonal Culture Centre, Kolkata was inaugurated today at the Art and Culture department complex.

Speaking at the function director, Art and Culture, Dr K Sobita Devi said that the penna phamshak and khongjom praba are endangered art forms of the state.

The department of art and culture will urged the state government to include the Penna Phamshak and the Khongjom Praba in the curriculum of the State Government Music College and State Government Dance College, respectively, so as to help in the preservation of such art forms, she said .

Preserving such art forms need initiatives and help from the general public, she said.

And efforts of the department alone cannot succeed in preserving the art forms, she opined.

Appealing for support of the people in the efforts of the government to safeguard and preserve the art forms, National Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Dr IS Kangjam said that the indigenous art pena phamshak is a precious art of the state which needs efforts of the general public and government alike for its preservation.
