IMPHAL, December 17: The three undergraduate teachers on a fast onto death demanding promotion of more than 600 teachers to graduate teacher continued their fast into the second day supported by several other teachers.
The fast unto death was launched yesterday at the Moirang leirak Community Hall under the sponsorship of the Demand Committee for the Promotion/Upgradation of Undergraduate/Primary Teachers to Graduate Post.
The three teachers are identified as Namoijam Khogendra Meitei, Primary Teacher Kha-Imphal Primary school; Md Basir Ahmad, Sora Khunou Upper Primary School and Loitongbam Milanjit Achanbigei Junior High School.
Several other teachers in a show of solidarity to the fast onto death agitation also came out and sat with the three today.
Meanwhile, the Demand Committee PUUPTGP has also reiterated that the agitation will continued until its demand is met.
Speaking to media persons one of the teachers said that as resolved between the committee and the government, a DPC for promotion to graduate teachers post was conducted on November 18, last.
However, the results are yet to be announced, the teacher said.
Another demand of the teachers is that the results for the DPC for Matriculate and Under Matric teachers and the DPC for promotion to graduate teachers shouldn’t be combined.
