UKHRUL, December 31: As the year 2013 is drawing to an end and another year is all set to ring in on the stroke of midnight tonight, various local churches in Ukhrul town have lined up a mosaic of programs to celebrate the occasion with religious fervor.
As part of the varied festivities geared to receive the New Year, the Union Baptist Church (UBC) at Phungreitang is gearing up for a midnight service which is expected to be attended by a congregation of more than 2000 believers, according to Pastor, UBC, Rev Remember Rimai.
Elaborating on the service, he said that the midnight program will be divided into two parts – one devoting prayers and thanks-giving to the graciousness of the Almighty, which has seen everyone through the year gone by and the other partaking in commitment as believers for the New Year.
Pastor, Rev. Rimai also disclosed that a program for Lord’s Supper is planned on New Year with a view to fostering stronger spiritual lives for the members.
The Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC) is also equally gearing up to celebrate the New Year with the best of festivities.
According to S Nanso, secretary, program committee, PBC, they have charted out many colorful items like skit, recitation apart from holding the final round of Voice Hunt which will see five finalists vying for the Best Voice title till the stroke of midnight.
Further, there will be an item of New Year cake cutting and sharing to mark the occasion. The BPC church hall where the midnight service is to be held will be jam-packed, he anticipated.
Many other local churches like Viewland Baptist Church (VBC), Town Baptist Church (TBC), Bumrei Baptist Church (BBC) et al are also lining up their respective items of festivities to mark the arrival of the New Year 2014.
