JIRIBAM, December 17: An awareness campaign on crime against women was held today at the Jiribam Town Hall, jointly organized by HRO, WAD and UNM-M.
The programme was attended by different social organizational members, women sympathizers and resource persons.
Th Ibomcha Singh, Zilla Parishad , Jiribam; W Basanta Singh, advocate; Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary WAD; L Pishak Singh, secretary NLF and chairperson WWC, Bishnupur district; R Boinu Koireng, co-ordinator UNM-M; Jina Devi, proprietor Rest House, Khurai shared the dais as chief guest and presidium members of the campaign.
Addressing the key-note, Ranita Devi appreciated the women for organizing such an awareness campaign at Jiribam, where many domestic violence and crime against women goes unnoticed.
L Pishak Singh secretary NLF and chairperson WWC, Bishnupur district said that there are many women who have faced domestic violence, sexual harassment and molestation but at most times, the victims have remained silent fearful of the outcome of exposing the crimes.
He further appealed to the women against hiding such crimes; and further expressed that if kept hidden, such crimes will only increase.
He said that the society is ours, and we need to fight for its welfare and development.
Jina Devi proprietor Rest House, Khurai said that such crimes and violence are not isolated cases but it occurs and happens at almost everywhere, be it in a public place or a private residence, however, most victims continue to remain silent and fail to overcome the stigma attached with the harassment.
She said instead of disheartening it is better to challenge such criminal.
She further called upon all women to be united to show their united strength to the world.
