KANGPOKPI, January 23: A mini-truck driver and a labourer who were abducted on January 17 near Kanglatongbi temple has been rescued today from Koubru Leikha area.
A high level reliable source informed that the duo were rescued by a combined team of Imphal West Cdo, 43 Assam Rifles, Senapati Police and CSOs from Sadar Hills including Kuki Inpi, Women Union and Women Human Rights from a hillock in the eastern side of Bimparao village, situated one and half Kilometre (approx.) from Koubru Leikha at around 3:30 pm this evening.
The two are identified as Maibam Tomba Singh, 29, son of Maibam Mangi Singh of Thoubal Athokpam Nepra Company and Thongam Shanta Singh, 45, son of Th Moirang of Athokpam Awang Leikai.
The source further said that Maibam Tomba Singh, a mini-truck driver and Thongam Shanta Singh, a labourer were engaged in black topping a road at Kanglatongbi when they were abducted by suspected KNA militant near Kanglatongbi temple on January 17 at around 9 pm in connection with a ransom demand.
