Another IED recovered on R-Day eve

CCPUR, January 25: A day after two Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered from the road side along the Tiddim Road, another powerful IED was found planted at Toulbung Bangla village, Churachandpur district this morning around 5.30.

The bomb was defused and detonated by the Army’s anti-bomb squad around 9.30 am.

According to the police, the IED weighed around 10 kg.

The bomb is believed to be planted by valley based militant outfits trying to sabotage the R-Day celebrations.

The bomb was found  about 100 meter away from the 54 Bn ‘A’ coy BSF post in Torbung.

Elvis Tunglut, OC CCpur was among the first to arrive at the scene.

While quoting the locals, he said that around 2.30 am today, three motor bike borne youths stopped near the spot, purposely to plant the IED.

According to the locals, two of the suspicious looking youths walk away along the eastern side of the road, while the other rode off the bike towards the eastern side, said the OC.

When the OC and his team tried to move the bomb from the road to a safer place, using bamboo sticks to pull it, the hanger of the bag which contained the bomb broke, informed the police.

Meanwhile, a BSF source said that two officers and 11 other personnel of the force, who were conducting a mobile check post nearby the area, on getting suspicious of the three motor-cycle borne youth tried to intercept them. However, the three made good their escape, taking advantage of the darkness, informed the source.

Meanwhile, after the BSF filed a complaint with the CCpur police, an FIR No 14 (i) 2014 CCP PS U/S 4(A) Explosive Substance Act and 3 IPC was registered.

It is also learnt that the IED contained components of a mobile phone indicating towards the use of a timer.
