Cabinet recommends seventh session of Manipur Assembly from Feb 24

IMPHAL, January 29: The state Cabinet has decided to forward a recommendation to the Governor of Manipur to summon the 7th session of the tenth Assembly from February 24, 2014.

The decision was taken at a marathon session of the Cabinet held at the Chief Minister Bungalow today. The meeting which lasted from 2 pm to 7 pm was presided over by chief minister O Ibobi.

During the press briefing conducted at RAMSA office by the minister of education and CAF & PD, M Okendro who is also the government spokesperson, it was announced that Cabinet discussed different agenda including the opening of four new police outposts – Chingkham Outpost, Oinam Sawombung Outpost under Lilong Police Station, Waithou Outpost and Sora Khunuda Outpost under Thoubal Police Station.

He further said the meeting also discussed the amendment of Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2014 and the allotment of additional government khas land to farmers affected by the expansion of Imphal Airport.

The Cabinet has decided to engage the former Planning Commission Secretary Sudha Pillai, a retired IAS, as a consultant to assist the preparation of DPR for the land use policy in the hills and valley areas for getting financial assistance for jhum cultivators, he stated.

M Okendro further added that the Cabinet also decided to recruit 251 staff of Rastriya Bal Suraksha Kariyakaram (RBSK) under NRHM on contract basis. He said the Cabinet has approved the extension of the retirement age of college lectures from 60 to 65 years as per the norms of the UGC guideline. The retirement age of aided college lectures has also been extended.     

The Cabinet meeting deferred discussion on some agenda including those related to devolution of powers to Zilla Parishad, Panchayat and ADCs.
