IMPHAL, January 30: The students of Manipur University staged a sit-in-protest cum one day fasting against the corruption as a part of the national campaign “Student Stand against Corruption” under the aegis of National Student’s Union of India today in front of MU Boys hostel. More than 30 students participated at the protest.
The National Student’s Union of India had started the initiative inspired by the anti-corruption call of Rahul Gandhi.
The passing of Lokpal Bill in the Parliament has been the 2th biggest step after RTI to fight against corruption. Student across India have decided to stand against corruption on the call of students NSUI has organised a massive movement, according to the students’ body.
The NSUI has demanded the passage of five other anti-corruption Bills pending in the Parliament – prevention of corruption Bill, the whistle-blowers protection Bill, Bill to address foreign bride, right of citizen grievances redressal bill, Judicial standard and accountability bill and public procurement bill.
Th Bikram Khuman, the president of NSUI, Manipur said that the union will organise a massive signatory campaign against corruption and got instant support from hundreds of students in Delhi.
He further said that NSUI is now taking up the cause across the nation and will conduct signature campaign in every district of the country. We expect the support of a majority of lawmakers across the nation who will echo our voice in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, he stated.
The NSUI office bearers are holding the fast in support of the demand and to commemorate Mahatama Gandhi’s death anniversary who envisioned a corruption free India with equal opportunity for all.
