IMPHAL, Feb 24 (NNN): The 72-hour bandh along Silchar-Imphal road or National Highway 37 ends tonight imposed by Kuki Students Organisation-Tamenglong district and Kuki Women Union, Tamenglong district which has been edorsed by KSO-GHQ and Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur (ZSUM) but the highway will continue to be affected for the next 72 hours as another tribal organisation sponsored chakka bandh of hill districts begins from midnight of February 24.
“Till date there has been no response from the state government side so we resume our our agitation soon with sterner agitation,” said the tribal organisations.
Earlier, KSO-Tamenglong district and Kuki Women Union (KWU), Tamenglong district had announced to call bandh along the NH-37 strongly objecting to the perpetual encroachment of the `tribal lands` which is in Tamenglong district contiguous with Jiribam sub division of Imphal East district, in connivance with the police and the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam.
Meanwhile, all the transporters are heading to Imphal in haste so that they are not trapped in the highways.
Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (COPTAM) sponsored hill districts chakka bandh will begin from midnight of Monday in protest protest against the state government`s `indifferent attitude to the legitimate and rightful demands` of the tribal people.
