CSOs set up Cell to check cyber crime against girl

IMPHAL, February 23: A group of civil society organisations have come together to set up Special Cell to check cyber-crime against children in the state and provide legal actions to the victim, secretary Women Action for Development, Sobita Mangsatabam today.

Addressing a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club today, she identified the organisations as North East Dialogue Forum; United NGO Mission, Manipur; Women Action for Development and New Life Foundation and the Centre for Social Development.

The Special Cell will check the misuse of mobile phones and internet by children directed against girls, she said.

She further said that the cell aims to control child exploitation and to consult and sensitise any victims of cyber-crime along with the family members and to provide immediate necessary actions with the help of the law.

The CSOs further appealed to the state police to take proper action against all such case by taking a suo-moto case within 24 hours of the incident being reported, Sobita said.

“All Pradhans, counsellor, ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers are also urged to prevent child marriages in their respective localities.”

She further appealed to the Child Welfare Committee’s to publish their names and contacts, and for the Social Welfare department to open Juvenile Homes in every district of the state.
