Get involved in decison making, says Governor

IMPHAL, February 20: The Governor of Manipur VK Duggal, today inaugurated the six-day long Global Youth Meets 2014 India, on Promoting Young Blood Donors and Looking Beyond Disaster, today at the MFDC Hall, Palace Compound in the presence of Chief Minister of Manipur, O Ibobi Singh and Stephanie Benedetti, head of Club 25 international board, USA.

This is the first time that Manipur is hosting a global event for youths with huge participations of delegate from different countries.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor of Manipur stressed on the vital role of youths in shaping the future.

He said that youths need to be more aware of its surrounding and actively involved in decision making for the future.

He hoped that the initiative of the Club 25 will yield a positive outcome.  

Chief Minister of Manipur O Ibobi Singh, expressed his appreciation towards the Club25 International Manipur for organising such a mega event here in the state.

He however, extended his apologies for lacking many facilities as compared with other developed countries.

The agenda of this Global Youth Meets – Promoting Young Blood Donor and Looking Beyond Disaster is the relevant issues facing in every country of the world.

He expressed his optimism that the Global Youth Meets 2014 will definitely provide a platform for the young people to discuss, understand, share, find solutions and develop strategies on issues pertaining blood donation movement and taking care all the eventualities after disaster.

While dwelling into role of the youth, he said that they are at the forefront of the global change and innovation. “The more empowered of the youths, the more the key agent for development and peace. If however, they are left on society`s margin, all of us will be impoverished”, added Ibobi.

Stressing on the common social problems being faced across the globe like unemployment, poverty, high rate of HIV/AIDS, increasing crime against women and children, drug addiction, human right violation, and above all terrorism, he observed that maximum youths are involved. However to channelize their energy, they are to be properly guided and government has to take care of them by giving employment opportunity and take part in nation building, said Ibobi.

He suggested that the recommendation of the conference on international youth projects can be recommendation to governments, world bodies like UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, UNDP and other world bodies on youth resilience, rebuilding communities and health respond.

Meanwhile, Delegates from Tanzania, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Bhutan etc have started arriving to take part in the meet.

The global meet organised by Club 25 international Manipur earlier targeted participants from over 51 countries and 128 delegates from 28 Indian states. However, only 24 countries will be able to take part during the meet.

Talking to IFP, the organisers informed that many countries like Pakistan, Denmark, China have cancelled their visit unable to acquired no objection certificate. At the same time, a delegate from Afghanistan who was detained yesterday for not possessing PAP was send back this evening.
