House moves obituary reference to former members Paoneikhai Suantak, T Goukhenpao

IMPHAL, Feb 24: The first day of the seventh session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today witnessed the House paying obituary reference on the demise of two members of the House.

The two departed MLAs are Manipur Territorial Assembly members Paoneikhai Suantak and T Goukhenpao

The House observed a two minute silence to condole the death of the two.

Participating in the obituary reference, leader of the House, state chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh said in 1949, Paoneikhai Suantak was a member of the then Manipus State Congress serving the people.

He was also a pioneer in social work, the chief minister observed.

The deceased was a member of the House in 1962 and held post in several committees of the House.

He was elected from the Churachandpur AC and had work for the upliftment of the Vaiphei community.

T Goukhenpao was born in 1934 and completed his graduation in 1960 and a pioneer educationist amongst the people of the hills. He was got immersed in Christianity at the young age of 15 to become a known religious leader in later years.

He joined active politics in 1962 and got elected from Thanlon AC as an Independent candidate and joined the INC.

Both leaders worked for the betterment of the society, the chief minister said before adding that he shares the grief of both families.

The obituary reference was also participated by members Phungzathang Tonsing, T Manga Vaiphei, TH Haokip and speaker Th Lokeshwar Singh.
