IMPHAL, February 25: Three Improvised Explosive Devices were found from three different places of the state including from inside an Anganwadi centre yesterday.
Local villagers detected a bomb like object inside the Anganwadi Centre at Andro Machengpat, Impha East around 2.30 pm yesterday.
Later in the evening, a bomb disposal squad confirmed the object to be an IED. Following which, a combined team of police and 40 AR personnel stood watch at the site throughout the night. The IED was set off this afternoon around 2.55pm at a nearby vacant space.
The IED was planted about six inches deep at a corner of the Anganwadi Centre and was covered with a radio cabinet containing two TNT cakes, remote control device, battery cell and detonator.
The explosive was however, without splinters.
It is learnt that MLA Th Shyamkumar was supposed to attend a public meeting at a public ground close to the Anganwadi Centre.
However, following the discovery of the IED, the venue for the meeting was shifted to another place.
Meanwhile, local MLA Shyamkumar visited the centre after the morning session of the Assembly.
He speculated that the IED was targeted at him as he was supposed to attend a program at the venue yesterday.
He asserted that three life attempts have been made on him including yesterday’s IED.
On November 26, 2007 an IED attack on his life while he was the deputy speaker left two escort personnel and a driver injured in between Oksu and Ningthemcha Khul, Imphal East.
He said, on February 7, this year, some unidentified persons who came in a Chevrolet Beat car had fired several rounds from firearms at his vehicle at Koirengei.
Meanwhile, another IED was found inside a mini truck parked at the residence of special contractor Thingujam Munindro at Khongman Zone IV, Imphal East district. Police retrieved the bomb at around 8.30 am today, informed a source.
The third IED was found planted along the Tiddim Road in Churachandpur.
