CHANDEL, February 5: The people of Chandel district have strongly opposed the state government policy to acquire 600 acres of land near Pallel for development of Integrated cum Multi Facilities Logistic Hub under State Department of Commerce and Industry.
The decision to this effect was taken at a one-day Public Consultative Meet organised by the Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee at Khukarthil Village Community Hall, Chandel today.
During the consultative meet, presided by convenor Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee (CDNKJC) social worker Ws Kanral Anal, various issues ranging from “the state government policy to acquire 600 acres near Pallel for development of Integrated cum Multi Facilities Logistic hub; transfer of Land Revenue from Thoubal District; MoU signed between the state government and Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee pertaining to shifting of surrendered KYKL (MDF) from the district” were deliberately discussed among others.
Several representatives of peoples’ organization speaking at the meeting denounced the move of the government to acquire agriculture land which is the daily bread of the people of that area.
The speakers moreover protest the move as the proposed site of the park will rendered thousands homeless.
The meeting also strongly criticized the move of the government to establish the park in the name of Thoubal district by carving or acquiring land belonging to Chandel district.
Following an interaction and discussion, a consensus declaration was adopted wherein it strongly opposed the policy of the state government to acquire 600 acres of land under Village numbers 50, 51, 52 near Pallel for development of Integrated cum Multi Facilities Logistic Hub under the Department of Commerce and Industries, government of Manipur as the proposed site will affect many villages including some of minority tribe in the district.
It was also declared to press demand for Transfer of Revenue Land Record of Chandel from Thoubal District to Chandel District, to fulfill the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the State Government and Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee pertaining to shifting of Surrendered KYKL (MDF) from the District into action at the earliest and to oppose the State Cabinet decision to construct Khunutabi Police Station within the area of Laiching Minou of Chandel District.
The meeting further resolved to impose 48-hour Chandel district total bandh from midnight of February 27, if the state government fails to response positively at the earliest.
The consultative meet was attended by village chiefs, social workers, intellectuals, Tribe leaders and representatives of Kuki Peoples Forum, All Tribal Chiefs Grievances Forum, NGOs, students unions, chiefs associations and women organisations of all tribes of the district.
