IMPHAL, February 27: Four times Chief Minister of Manipur, Raj Kumar Dorendra Singh will support the Congress candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The veteran politician met Okram Ibobi Singh at JNIMS on February 4 to discuss the matter. Dorendra had apprised the Chief Minister that he will execute in his capacity best to mobilize his workers and further to promote the Congress candidates at the elections to be held in the month of April, 2014. Later, a meeting was also organized on February 22 last at Dorendra’s residence with party workers and sympathizers in furtherance of the stance. The meet unanimously selected Nongthombam Noren as organizer of the political campaign.
RK Dorendra political achievements include being elected as commissioner of Imphal Municipality in 1964, as Speaker of the 1974 State Legislative Assembly, four times Chief Minister of Manipur, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) in 1988, elected 6 times as MLA from Yaiskul assembly constituency etc.
He won the 1974 election representing Manipur Peoples Party and the same year joined the Congress. Later, he became Chief Minister in December 1974.
