CM Okram Ibobi demands stringent action against culprits

NEW DELHI, February 9 (MIC): State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh met with the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde this evening at 6.30 at his residence at 2, Krishna Menon Marg here, regarding the increasing incidents of violence, sexual assault and molestation against the people of North East states in the national capital Delhi.

The chief minister strongly condemned such incidents and demanded the Union Home Minister to take stringent action against the culprits as per the law of the land.

He also requested the Union Home Minister to put in place a framework for providing adequate protection to the students and the people from the North-eastern region staying in other parts of the country, especially in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.

He emphasized that every citizen of the country had the right to live with dignity anywhere in the country and further explained that the people of the whole region including from Manipur were distressed over the death of Nido Taniam a student from Arunachal Pradesh as well as the incident of heckling of two Manipuri girls recently followed by the rape of a minor girl from Manipur on the night of February 7, 2014 in the national capital.

The Union Home Sushil Kumar Shinde assured the state chief minister that speedy actions would be taken against the culprits in the incidents in accordance of law.
