IMPHAL, February 24: The United National Liberation Front: Manipur has reacted strongly against a statement of the joint secretary, Home ministry Sambhu Singh calling the underground outfits of the North eastern region to join the mainstream by laying down their arms.
A press statement of the outfit has said the statement is an effort to malign the movement for “Right to Self-determination” while veiling the various atrocities carried by the Indian government.
It said that the “annexation” of the once independent Manipur is the origin of the Manipur-India faceoff.
By imposing several draconian acts like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, the Indian government has been imposing army rule over the people of the region, it continued.
The Indian government has also ignored assertions from several groups including the Amnesty International and other UN bodies to repeal the AFSPA from the region, it continued.
The Indian agents have also been indulging in financing several armed groups to malign the armed movement in Manipur, it further claimed.
It has also asserted that the continued racial discrimination of the people of the region in various places of India has only strengthened the bond of unity amongst the people of the region.
