Cdo `accidentally` shoots suspect

IMPHAL, April 23: An alleged vehicle lifter who was picked up by the police for interrogation was shot on his chest when a police commando in the same vehicle with him accidentally shot from his service weapon.

In another unrelated incident, a man was found hanging from the ventilator inside a hotel room today.

A team of the Imphal Police commandos had picked up Md Rashid alias Boicha son of Md Hamid Ali of Kwakta Ward No 2 from Hatta area around 8.30pm Tuesday on charges of lifting vehicles from Raj Polyclinic parking some days back.

He was picked up in a Commando Rakshak vehicle and was interrogated by the commandos, however, a service weapon of one of the commandos fired off, hitting Rashid on his chest at Lamlong Bazar area, sources said.

Rashid was immediately rushed to the Shija Hospital for treatment and is presently undergoing treatment at the ICU Ward I in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a man was found dead hanging inside a room of the Prince Hotel today at around 7:30 pm.

The hotel is located on the back side of Pologround under city police station. The dead body has been deposited to RIMS morgue for verification.

According to the registration at the Hotel reception counter, the room is registered in the name of John, 30, of Namching village, Senapati district.

He had checked in to the hotel yesterday at around 4:50 pm.

The incident came to light when the management of the hotel knocked at his hotel room door and found that the main door was open, informed a source.

The man was found hanging from the ventilator of the bathroom with a full sleeve T shirt, informed the source.

A team of the State Forensic experts arrived at the spot and inspected the room and conducted an inquest of the body.

The body has been deposited at the RIMS morgue for verification and post mortem and the city police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
