Flare up at RIMS as delivery delayed over water scarcity

IMPHAL, April 26: Amid the acute water scarcity faced by the people in the state, lack of water in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) gynaecology operation theater today resulted in the delayed delivery of a baby which caused a quarrel between the family members and hospital authorities.

The caesarian section of a 24 year woman fixed at around 8 am was suspended due to lack of water. Consequently after getting to know the information provided by the concerned authorities, people tending other patients got enraged accusing the hospital authorities of negligence that resulted in a quarrel.

Speaking to the media, a person tending the patient said that when the patient was waiting to be operated, staffs at the OPD informed that there was a lack of water while the authorities on being asked to manage the water cited helplessness.

When the Medical Superintendent (MS) was informed about the situation, it led to the suspension of the delivery as he said that some unavoidable circumstances may arise for the patient, the person added.

Observing that even the MS was not aware about the situation which might have resulted in the lost of someone’s life, he lamented the negligence and asked if the required water for the operation was deficient why the concerned authorities since yesterday did not make arrangement of the water.

Due to the lack of water, the patient’s father arranged 20 litres of water for his daughter’s operation to be not hindered or suspended.
