IMPHAL April 6: Family members and locals of Haoreibi Awang Leikai demanded to arrest the accused person who stabbed Sarungbam Inao with a knife during a Thabal Chongba performed in their locality on March 20 last at around 11 pm.
Speaking to media persons in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club on Sunday, Sarungbam (O) Rekha, wife of the victim Inao, 40, son of late Umor of Haoreibi Awang Leikai said that on the last day of Yaoshang that is March 20, a Thabal Chongba was held in their locality and during the Thabal Chongba at around 11 pm, the accused Yendrenbam Dhiren, 43, son of late Ibochou of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai was seen misbehaving with others who are participating in the Thabal Chongba. At that time, Inao went near him and asked Dhiren to stop what they are doing.
After that time, Dhiren took away Inao toward nearby paddy field and argument took places between them. After that, Inao has resumed to Thabal Chongba activities when Dhiren attacked Inao with a knife from the back on his left side of neck and on the right shoulder after which Inao was reportedly admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment and later referred to Langol View Clinic, Rekha said.
Speaking in the press conference, S Nandakumar Councillor of the Ward No 1 of the Samom Nagar Panchayat who is also the president of the Northern Star Club said that just a few hour after the incident was happened, they have filed a formal complain to the concern Wangoi Police Station but till today the accused is moving freely and the police have failed to arrest the accused person.
The weapon used by the accused for committing the crime has not been picked up by the police, he charged and further said that the Investigating Officer of the case has informed the family members that the accused has surrendered before the court and will produce before the same court on April 9, he said.
Even if the accused has surrendered to the court, the accused is staying at home and moving freely, he said and further appealed to all concern to take up action against the accused and arrest at the earliest so as to give justice to the victim.
