IMPHAL, April 1: A flag hosting ceremony was held on Tuesday at the premises of the Janata Dal (United) candidate Lamminlei alias Lien Gangte in Mission lane, Sanjenthong.
In the flag hosting ceremony, the election manifesto of the party for the 16th Lok Sabha Election was also released which included ten promises such as protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur. The manifesto also promises the removal of AFSPA from the entire the state of Manipur. JD (U) asserted in the manifesto that it will fight tooth and nail in this particular issue.
The manifesto further promises to end political conflicts in the state by having meaningful dialogues with all SoO ( Suspension of Operation) groups ( Kuki UG’s and Valley base groups) and to initiate the contentious issue to the central government for early political solutions.
The state’s high ways and National high ways will be constructed and designed as par other states in the India, the manifesto claimed and added that the party will demand for National and State highway protection forces in Manipur.
Promising protection for tribal community and differently able persons, the manifesto claimed that the party will seek to improve health-care services and develop the identified tourist spots in the state and turn them into global tourist destinations.
It also promises to ensure enough supply of drinking water, power and other domestic consumptions.
Rev RR Chothe was the chief guest, M Tombi President JD(U) was the president and N Ibomcha Samata Party Manipur state units and MLA Dr I Ibohanbi Opposition leaders were the guest of honour respectively.
Speaking in the flag hosting ceremony, Lien Gangte said that till date the elected members of Lok Sabha have not brought development in the hilly areas.
Continuing that the people of outer constituency have experiences of the inactivity of elected members, he said that people need to support JD (U) and that if people elected him as MP he would work without discriminating about caste and creed.
He promised to safeguard the territorial integrity of the state and also to fight for removing AFSPA from the state.
He also expressed his agreement with the demand of Schedule Tribes status by the Meiteis and said that he wholly support it. Pointing out that nothing has been done for the welfare of the cadres of UG groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO), he said that he would asked parliament to do something for their welfare.
Appealing for support from people, he asked them to vote for him and informed about his symbol ‘Arrow’.
Tombi said that they are selecting Lien Gangte because he was qualified and has been working for the welfare of the people.
Stating the rationale of the party for not supporting Dr Nara was his commitment to support NCP in the outer seat, he said that because of this reason JD (U) will support Manipur Pradesh Trinomial Congress candidate S Manaobi for the inner seat.
He said that even though their party is poor with people’s support and their votes it can win this election as public opinion is more important than money. Condemning the CM for not taking responsibility in the border fencing issue, he said that JD (U) has taken more responsibility for the state and that people need to support JD (U) and give their valuable votes to Lien Gangte and his symbol ‘Arrow’.
