JIRIBAM CSOs convenes meeting

JIRIBAM, April 15: Civil Society Organisations of Jiribam sub division on Tuesday convened a meeting at Jiribam Higher Secondary on the issue of increasing population of Boroikhal villagers who have fled from their village.

A relief camp has been opened at the auditorium of the higher secondary in addition to the existing relief camp opened at a local Mandop since April 12 last.

The meeting was attended by S Maniton Singh general secretary of the Senior Citizen Jiribam, S Sishila Devi president of the Ngamkhei Kanba Lup nad K Punimashi Singh as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speakers of the meeting opined that the human crisis at Boroikhal was engineered by some vested interest people and happened so owing to the prolonged negligence by the government of Manipur.

It was also mentioned in the meeting that the Meitei villagers of Boroikhal are peace loving people who earned their livelihood by simple means of manual and human labour and also urged the Additional DC of the sub division to intervene on this sensitive human issues. The meeting also discuss the formulation means by sitting together of the all communities of Jiribam sub division.

At the end of the meeting, five resolutions were taken viz. Manipur government should soon resolve the inter district boundary dispute; the houses and properties which lay unattended now due to boundary dispute should be deployed security personnel; relief camp should be closed as soon as possible; security post should be opened at Boroikhal and development amenities such as electricity, water supply, road connectivity and schools should be provided at Boroikhal respectively.

After the meeting was concluded, the convenor of the Ngamkhei Kanba Lup W Dinesh Singh briefed the media persons that there are displeasures among the people of Jiribam to the leaders of Zeliangrong community for maintaining silence on this issue and added that the crisis could be avoided if Zeliangrong community took some sort of responsibility.

He further charged that Zeliangrong Community should take responsible for the crisis.

He also told media person that there are 53 individuals in the relief camp including 19 men, 19 women, 17 children respectively.
