IMPHAL, April 10: A new development has surfaced in the land acquisition issue of the New Checkon area for the development of a secure Government housing colony at Sanjenthong.

Contrary to the previous order, the Planning Department has released a clarification (dated 6 April) signed by its Joint Director, Y Indramani, stating that the proposed secure Government housing colony is to be developed in government land with a view to prevent encroachment from various quarters on land of the existing Government colony in Sanjenthong.

The measurement and demarcations of land will be confined in the areas where there are government quarters inside the officer’s colony at Sanjenthong. It asked the revenue department to complete the exercise and submit the report at the earliest to execute necessary action.

The order copy mentioned that the order was issued with the approval of competent authorities.  It may be recalled that as per the previous order dated March 21, the acquisition was to affect three polling stations of Wangkhei constituency.

It was to affect Dimdailong, Namthanpung, Mission Lane, Maring Lane, Chassad Avenue, Pureiromba Leikai and Nongpok Ingkhol. Strongly reacting to this Y Irabot, implicated the development as a politically motivated plan to sabotage his political career while terming the decision was adopted discreetly by the chief minister. With regards to the development, he had written a complaint to Luizinho Faleiro, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and AICC VP  Rahul Gandhi.
