Property worth Rs 9.5 lakhs destroyed in fire at Mitong

CHANDEL, April 17: Barely four days after the reported incident of wild forest fire causing huge loss of property in three villages of Chandel district, another case of a fire damaging five houses around 5pm of April 16 at Mitong Rashankhur village has come up.

A combined team of Bujuur Aanchung Puh (BAP) led by its president N Shongsheer, Bujuur Sanuw Ruwrkheh (BSR), Kapaam Village Women Organisation, Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC), Naga Peoples Movements for Human Rights (NPMHR) and Chandel Naga People`s Organisation (CNPO), after having reach out to the affected village with relief materials today has appealed to the district authority and the state govt to taking up necessary actions for extending aids to the affected victims.

Briefing media in Rashankhu, village chief, Ng Angningam claimed his house was totally turned to ashes.

He said he has lost property worth about Rs 2.5 lakh along with the rest of the houses belonging to his villagers was engulfed by the fire at about 5pm on April 16.

Identifying the rest of the affected victims, the chief said W Rungam lost a godown storing about 100 tin of paddy was completely turned to ashes during the fire leaving W Rungam with a property loss of about Rs 2.5 lacs.

He also identified the rest of the victims as Cr Mongamchung, 54, Ng Anthony 25 and Ng Ngamriir, 32.

In addition, the chief in his statement to the media pointed out lack of basic infrastructure in the form of poor connectivity, lack of drinking water supply and health care institution as major problems being faced by the village.

He also informed that his village had not been able to get power supply in the village for the last 6 months as  electricity department failed to restore the transformer at the village.

In his appeal to the concerned authority to redress the grievances of the villagers, he also thanked the initiative of the organization who visited the village and extended help in cash and kinds.

Addressing the affected villagers, CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal assured help and support towards the suffering and grievances of the people and expressed optimism that the concern department and authority will look into the matter higlihted.
