IMPHAL, May 20: 13-year-old Athena Thiyam today released her first volume of poems (including two essays) The Other World and Others today at the Manipur Press Club.
Athena born to writers Saratchand Thiyam and Bimati Thiyam (o) of Sagolband Lukram Leirak, is a Class VIII student of Shishu Nistha Niketan.
Along with the release of the book, she also celebrated her birthday today.
Former-president, Manipur Sahitya Parishad, B Jayantakumar Sharma attended the function as chief guest, former-director, JN Manipur Dance Academy, L Joychandra Singh as the guest of honour and Principal, Shishu Nistha Niketan, Nongthombam Elizabeth as the president.
During the function Athena read one of her poem from the book.
L Joychandra said people usually consider poems to be a grown-ups domain, however, reading Athena’s poems have made me rethink that poetry has no age bar.
The poems reflect on what is going on around her and her love for nature, he said.
N Elizabeth said Athena is a student who has a desire to learn and a quiet and polite girl who makes proper use of her time and never shirks her duties.
