Civil bodies protest frequent accidents along NH 37

IMPHAL, May 3: A sit-in protest, organised by the NH 37 clubs and Meira Paibi Association, was held at Khumbong Bazaar on Saturday against unwanted accidents of vehicles plying on NH 37 which have resulted in the lost of numerous lives.

Speaking to media persons, secretary general of the association, N Jiten Singh asserted that proper steps to ensure that the truck drivers have proper driving licenses will be taken by urging to the transport director, adding that the BRO will also be asked to widen the NH 37.

N Jiten appealed the drivers not to over-speed their vehicles near crowded areas such as market places and schools.

Over speeding has resulted in the death of a student of the Brighter Academy, Khumbong. The student was hit by a speeding truck.

He also said that over loaded Tata dumpers left their sides open which is not only a nuisance to passersby but sometimes caused fatal accidents.

On the day when some vehicles were escorted to get goods from other states, trucks which were parked on the sides of the road have caused a traffic jam and nuisance to people, he said, and appealed the drivers to park their vehicles at the parking lots given by the government.
