IMPHAL, May 20: Various literary and cultural organisations of the state have condoled the demise of renowned literary man and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Nongthombam Kunjamohon Singh.
Nongthombam Kunjamohan Singh who was awarded the Sahitya Akademi for his short story “Elisa Amagee Mahao,” died yesterday at the Shija Hospital.
The Cultural Forum Manipur has said in a press release that a condolence meeting was organised at its office at Rupmahal Tank Complex, BT Road Imphal on the sudden demise of N Kunjamohon Singh on May 19 last.
The meeting was presided over by its president L Iboton Singh, it said.
During the meeting, a two minutes silence was observed in honour of the departed soul and shared the grief of the family.
In a seperate press release, the Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Dave Literary House said a condolence meeting was held in condoling N Kunjamohn’s demise today.
It was held at its office located near the JN Manipur Dance Academy. The meeting was chaired by its president Prof Polen Nabachandra Singh.
Members present in the meeting lauded the works of late Kunjamohon and also mentioned that he was the founder editor of the Samiti’s journal “Wakhal”, said the release and added that the late Kunjamohon was awarded by the Samati as Writer of the Year in 2011.
The meeting also prayed to the Almighty God for his rest in peace in his abode while giving due respect to the departed soul, it said.
Similarly, the Manipur Dramatic Union has also communicated in press release stating that a condolence meeting was held at the union’s hall today.
The president of the union Kshetrimayum Ibohal Singh presided over the condolence meeting, said a press release of the union.
It added that the meeting observed two minutes silence in honour of the departed soul while sharing the grief and sorrow of the family.
Likewise, the Writers Club Manipur, Nambol branch has also conveyed in a press release that the members of the club have observed a two-minute silence during a condolence meeting chaired by its president Sharatchandra Nongthomba held at its office in the morning of Tuesday at 7 o’clock.
The meeting also shared the sorrow and grief of the family members while lauding the works and life of the late Kunjamohon Singh.
