Democracy reduced to complete mockery: BJP state spokesperson

THOUBAL, May 4: The Mandal Committee of the Khangabok Mandal BJP organised its annual meeting cum a one day workers’ conference today at the Khangabok Awang Maning Leikai residence of ex-minister L Yatra Singh.

The conference was divided into two sessions, Business session in the morning and Workers’ conference in the afternoon.

The second session had former BJP Manipur unit president Sh Shantikumar Sharma as the chief guest.

After lighting the inaugural lamp, the chief guest released a booklet published by the Khangabok BJP Mandal.

Party spokesperson, prof S Tiken Singh deliberated on the five commitments of the BJP and said the party has its own philosophy.

The five commitments of the party had sprang out of the party’s philosophy, he said.

To imbibe into the people of the country the spirit of nationalism along with the ideals of national integration, availing the true taste of democracy and its meanign for the people, complete faith in positive secularism, Gandhian socialism are the few points of the party’s five commitments, he said.

However, democracy has been reduced to a complete mockery in the present day India, the spokespersons rued and added the numbers game has today controlled democracy, which is really unfortunate.

He said the BJP has no desire of such democracy.

Editors of ‘Huiyen Lanpao’ Hemanta Kumar Ningomba and ‘Naharolgi Thoudang’ Khoirom Loyalakpa spoke on the topics “Need to eradicate money and muscle power” and “Need to elect a good leader” respectively.

Politics is today considered a business avenue, and winning the election by hook or by crook the political trend, Hemanta Kumar asserted.

Political candidates are today ready to even kill people to come to power, he said before adding in an optimistic note that all is not lost if the people have the political consciousness.

In the second session, Khangabok Mandal BJP, president L Kalachand presided over the conference.

Co-operative Cell of the BJP state convenor, Prof Th Yatra and RTI Cell of the BJP State convenor attended as guests of honour respectively.

In the conference, the committee member of the said Mandal decided to nominate a candidate for the 11th state general election, 2017, it said.
