IMPHAL, May 3: State Health minister Phungzathang Tonsing today assured that the 50 bedded Senapati District Hospital inaugurated on November 2, 2011 by the then Union Health Minister P Chidambaram will be handed over to the authorities concerned at the earliest.
He was addressing media persons following an inspection visit at the hospital.
The hospital is being constructed under funding from the Ministry of DoNER and the State government.
The minister was accompanied by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Francis Ngajokpa; principal secretary Health Service Manipur, Sohail Aktar; National Rural Health Mission director, O Ibomcha, other officials of the Health department and engineers of Manipur Development Society during the visit.
Speaking on the side-line of the visit, minister Phungzathang Tonsing expressed his dissatisfaction over the present condition of the hospital.
He was especially dissatisfied with the Labour room and Operation Theatre of the hospital.
Showing his displeasure, he had instructed the officials concerned to fix the tiles on the wall of the Operation Theatre and the Labour Room and the equipment lying unused and unattended at the hospital.
Later, he told media persons that almost 95 percent of the construction work is completed and that he has instructed the officials of the MDS and the engineers to complete the unfinished works at the earliest.
All concerned have also been instructed to install the instruments that have arrived especially for the hospital, Phungzathang asserted before adding that all other required materials will be provided to the hospital.
The state government is concerned with equal development of both the hills and the valley, and Senapati district has never been neglected by the government he asserted.
He also appealed to the civil organisations and the people to co-operate with the authorities for the sooth running of the hospital in the days to come.
Another hospital under construction at Mao will also be completed soon, and handed over to the authorities concerned, he assured.
On his return journey, the minister and his team was warmly received by IFC minister, Ngamthang Haokip; Kangpokpi MLA, P Nemcha Kipgen; members of Sadar Hills Autonomous Council; members of Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills and others at Kangpokpi ADC Office.
During the reception program, the Kangpokpi Town Committee and the KSO Sadar Hill submitted a memorandum to the Health minister.
The minister during his reception program said in the current year alone, the government has already completed the Jiribam CHC, Moreh Hospital and that the government is presently looking for a proper location for the construction of the Kangpokpi Community Health Centre.
Later during his visit at the Kangpokpi District Hospital, the minister expressed his dissatisfaction on finding that the corridor, operation theatre and other rooms have been used for storage.
He instructed the Medical officer concerned to vacant the corridor and the operation theatre, and to provide proper rooms for the doctors and nurses on duty.
He inspected the Kalapahar Primary Health Centre and the Primary Health Centre, Sapormeina and assured both the public and the staff of the centre that the construction of the new building for the PHC has been completed and it will be handed over to the people at the earliest.
