IMPHAL, May 20: The incinerators to dispose-off medical solid waste, purchased by the State to be installed in hospitals and other health care units have been lying unused for a long period, claimed Dr Ng Bojiy chairman Manipur Pollution Control Board.
Interacting with the media at his office chamber this afternoon, Bijoy said the State had sanctioned funds for the installation of the incinerators at every district hospitals.
However, according to official reports, the incinerators are all lying defunct and not even installed in all hospitals except at the Thoubal District Hospital and the RIMS, he said.
He further expressed that most private hospitals do not have incinerators and use to send their waste materials to Shija Hospitals for disposal.
The State has already asked all the district hospitals and private hospitals in the state to make their report on the issue, he said and added the district hospitals have already sent their reports and cited that they have sanctioned the required fund for the installation of the machines, whereas the private hospitals have in their reports said that they are sending their waste to Shija Hospital.
He continued soon after the return of the State Chief Minister from Delhi, the government will take up steps to control the practice.
Several district hospitals have incinerators, but are yet to be installed, he said expressing concern.
He also said that the MPCB is very much concerned with the mobile network towers which are very much harmful to the growing children.
