IMPHAL May 20: Nongmaithem Nandaraj Singh the recipient of Lalit Kala Akademi Award, 2013 was today accorded with a heroe’s welcome by family and well wishers at the Tulihal Airport.
The grand reception function was organised by Kakching’s Initiative for National Development (KIND) Trust and Kakching Bazaar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA).
Over hundreds people turned up to greet Nandaraj who landed at the Tulihal airport around 11.30 am.
From there he went to Kakching where another grand reception was organised by the Kakching residents under the aegis of KIND and KBBWA.
Nandaraj is the first Manipuri to win the prestigious award in sculpture and the second Manipur since Thoidingjam Tombi who won the award for painting in the year 1989. He was awarded for a sculpture titled “The Great Dictator”.
