IMPHAL, May 4: Decrying the charges levelled by a woman alleging foul play in her 12 year old daughter’s death at Laipat Awang Sekmai, leaders of the Progressive Young Development Organisation, Awang Sekmai and other meira paibis called a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today.
The 12 year old girl was found hanging inside a toilet on April 15.
A day after, on April 16, the mother Lourembam Bina requested the concerned Sekmai Police for the case taken up on the incident to be withdrawn, and two days later, she charged the locals of hiding the persons involved in the killing of her daughter, claimed PYDO vice president Th Surjeet Singh today.
He continued that the appeal to withdraw the case was made to the police in the presence of the locals of Laipat Awang Leikai.
Following the appeal of the mother to withdraw the case, post mortem was not conducted, he said.
The 12 year old girl was found hanging inside the toilet of her uncle’s residence around 5.30pm on April 15. She had been staying at her uncle’s place since the past few months, after the mother married another man from Leimakhong, he claimed.
The day, the girl was found dead, L Bina had come to the place on getting information about the incident, however, the next day she filed a written complaint to the Sekmai police alleging foul play, he said.
The same day, she claimed the body and cremated the body the same day after withdrawing the complaint without the conduct of a post mortem, he continued.
Further lambasting the charges levelled against the locals, the vice president said that in her appeal for the withdrawal of the complaint, L Bina had expressed conviction that the symptoms and sign found are indications of suicidal hanging.
