Pregnant woman survives husband`s knife attack

IMPHAL, May 3: In a shocking incident, a man attacked his three month pregnant wife using a knife at Sangaiyuumpham Part-I Sabal Leikai in Thoubal district.

Following the incident, angry locals dismantled the house of the accused.

The incident occured last night around 8.

Fortunately, the victim survived the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

The accused has been identified as one Md Alim Khan, 22, son of Md Maheruddin (Mechanic by profession working in a cycle workshop) while the victim has been identified as one Ruqsana, 18.

The couple has been married for about a year, however, since the past two months she has been staying at her parental home.

Yesterday around 8.30 pm an argument broke out between the couple when Aalim Khan came to take home Ruksana. Nonetheless, Aalam Khan managed to take her home.

This morning the locals of the area were shocked when they found Ruksana lying in pool of blood at a paddy field at Sangaiyumphal Mamag Loukul which is a stones throw away from their residence.

With Ruksana drenched in blood, the locals failed to regonise her at first glance but she was identified and rushed to JNIMS for treatment.

Sources said cut mark was found on her neck, chest and private parts.

Meanwhile, angry local dismantled the house of the accused husband after they found no one present there.

In connection with the incident a Joint Action Committee was formed by the locals wherein they demanded the police to book the culprit and hand over to the JAC and locals before May 10 failing which they threatended to launch intense form of agitation.
