IMPHAL, May 21: In an interesting turn of event, Irom Chanu Sharmila has pledged faith that the Modi government would fulfill his party’s promise to remove the AFSPA from Manipur. Sharmila said this on Wednesday expressing her desire to meet the Prime Minister elect of India to highlight the suffering of the people in the state.
Sharmila announced this to media persons during her routine physical appearance before the court today.
She revealed that she firmly believe that the new BJP led government in the centre will take some initiatives to do justice for the people of Manipur.
Irom Sharmila continued that during her visit to the national capital in connection with the summon to appear before the Patiala House Court, she will try to meet the new Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi.
Sharmila was produced today again before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East for the second time since a formal charge sheet was framed against her.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today issued a show cause notice to the Superintendent of Police (Prisons) Goulangmang, on May 24, the day of the next hearing, to explain their failure to submit medical reports on Sharmila’s condition.
Sharmila’s counsel, Khaidem Mani also questioned the Jail authorities failure to submit Sharmila’s report questioning whether it was due to the negligence or mistake of the authorities.
Khaidem Mani pointed out that on the first hearing scheduled on May 13 last, the court directed the authorities concerned to produce reports on mental and physical condition of Sharmila.
