IMPHAL, May 20: Health and Family Welfare minister, Phungzathang Tonsing, today announced that the process of establishing of the State Dental College at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences is in the pipe-line.
The minister stated this during the Silver jubilee celebration of the Indian Dental Association, Manipur State Branch held today at the conference hall of Imphal Hotel.
He attended the celebration as the chief guest, while Professor Mutum Shyamo director JNIMS attended as the function president.
Dr Okram Ibomcha director Family Welfare, Government of Manipur, Professor M Angouba Singh president IDA Manipur Branch, Dr Kh Deben secretary Indian Dental Association Manipur State Branch attended as guests of honour.
In his chief guest speech, Pungzathang Tonsing expressed his gladness that the state branch of the Indian Dental Association which initially started out with a few senior surgeons has now 135 dental surgeons.
Noting that currently there is only one dental college in the state at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, he informed that process are in the pipe line for opening of the State’s own dental college at JNIMS hospital.
Giving his key note address, Dr M Angouba Singh said that the Manipur State branch of Indian Dental Association was established in the year 1989 with only 20 dental surgeons of the state and from the year 1983 the dental surgeon of the state started working under the guideline of senior dental surgeon, he said.
He pointed out that today there are135 members of the Manipur state Branch excluding new dental doctors and the members of Manipur State Branch who have not renewed their membership.
During the last 25 years the state branch have taken up lots of encouraging research under the guidelines of senior dental surgeons and organised various free dental health check ups, educational programs at various schools, locals club and in the remotest of areas in the state, continued Dr Angouba.
He further announced that Imphal will host the National Dental Conference.
