IMPHAL, May 18: Progressive Artiste Laboratory (PAL), Lamboi Khongnangkhong is organising a first ever three-day-long National Dance Drama and Ballet Festival (Tarunkumar Fest) from May 21 to 23.
PAL director Tiken stated that among the north eastern states of India the state is famous for its richness in the field of arts and culture.
“The Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi and National School of Drama provide financial assistance for organising festivals of various performing art forms,”continued the PAL director.
The festival not only gives a chance to artistes, choreographers and directors through the sharing of creative ideas. The festivals will spread the message of peace in society, he said.
Along with other performing art forms, dance drama and ballet festivals are rarely organised and the festival will be a first of its kind, he said, adding that less organised artistes of dance, drama and ballet are unable to participate in such festivals and this also leads to dearth of young choreographers.
PAL is proposing to organise the festival at the national level under a mandate in order to facilitate the local artistes to learn from troupes of other states and it will also offer a rare opportunity to the Manipur audience to watch the dance dramas and ballets of other states, he asserted.
He further stated that 14 members of Assam (Tagore’s) will be participating and a Chennai base organization Lianda Folk & Classical Dance Academy and Kausalya of Chennai will participate in the festival.
