IMPHAL, May 6: The FXB India Suraksha, Manipur will be observing the World Aids Orphans Day on May 7.

In a statement, the association has said that over 95% of children affected by AIDS are orphans that live with their extended families in poverty and misery. Despite progress in funding, preventing and treating AIDS, the world is ignoring the basic needs of millions of vulnerable children, it said.

Few resources are reaching the families and communities that provide the front line response, even though they provide the vast majority of care and support to orphaned and vulnerable children. A generation will be lost if urgent matters are not taken up said the association in a press release.

The World AIDS Orphans Day (WAOD) was initiated by the association president and founder Albina du Boisrouvray in 2002 to bring attention to the millions of children affected by AIDS and advocate on their behalf by organising campaigns on May 7.

A worldwide coalition of mayors who engage their constituencies to respect and lobby for the rights of the most vulnerable children and at least 10% of all HIV and AIDS funding to support orphans and children affected by AIDS are called upon by WAOD advocates to their home governments said the association of FXB.
