IMPHAL, June 20: The All Tribal Disables’ Union, Manipur (ATDUM) tpday submitted a memorandum to the Union MinisterHome Affairs, Union Minister Women and Child Development, All India Congress Committee president, State Chief Minister and others demanding removal of Social Welfare minister Ak Mirabai from her ministerial post in concern with the alleged rape of a 15 year old blind girl by the chowkidar of the Government Ideal Blind School.
It has also demand a chargsheet against the chowkidar of the Government Ideal Blind School accused within a short period of time and to take appropriate legal action against accused Him Bahadur Thapa alias Khansa.
ATDUM also called a press conference at its administrative office organised by the Rights Movement Committee.
President/chairman of ATDUM Momo Tatanga said the association also had a meeting with the Social Welfare minister Ak Mirabai today at her residence.
He said that the incident was reported to the authority by friends of the girl on April 14, 2014.
He further said that it is a glaring example of the deplorable reality that is faced by the disables persons living within the state of Manipur and further alleged that the rape has been continuing from before.
He said the school authorities upon learning about the incident reported the matter to the director, social welfare department, Government of Manipur, but no action has been taken up neither by the director nor the school authorities.
On 8 June, 2014, the incident got published upon various newspapers of the state after the Democratic Students’ Alliance Manipur (DESAM) on learning about the matters took it up due to the inactions on the part of the state Government. It is only after such publication that the state machineries started reacting to the incident, he pointed out.
The ATDUM strongly demand the government to terminate the service of the director, social welfare Dept, Govt. of Manipur, terminate the service of the headmistress and superintendent/wardens, Govt. Ideal Blind school, Takyelpat, Imphal, give compensation/rehabilitation to the victim/victim family and deploy/arrangement security to the victim /victim family.
He said the association will organise a mass rally incase the government failed to work on the demands at the earliest.
