IMPHAL, June 14: Ruangmei has a rich culture and literature and was included as a subject in the HSLC examination after holding discussions at the higher level, the Ruangmeis have lots of resources in literature, arts and culture, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated in a function at Tarung Community Hall, organized by Ruangmei Literature Society, to felicitate the toppers in Ruanglat Subject at the HSCLC examination, 2014 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur.
Gaikhangam asserted that Meiteilon is not understood or spoken in some places of the hill districts and people take pride in their linguistic disadvantage which is shameful, adding “ Meiteilon is not only for the Meiteis but for all the people residing in the state; and, development will happen when Meiteilon and local dialects coexist.”
Deputy CM Gaikhangam said that Ruangmei have played a significant role in shaping the state’s civilization, adding that Ruangmei has a 2000 years civilization and is also one which preserves its religion.
There is no harm in knowing some other dialects or languages by any community, he stated, adding that felicitating such students for scoring good marks in the subject will encourage the development of the language.
Victoria Guanmei of Chr Grammar School, Tamenglong Headquarters obtaining 89 marks, Kunglinliu Paomei of Children Training School, Luangmai obtaining 87 marks and Champoungamliu Paomei of St John School, Luangba who obtained 85 marks were felicitated.
During the function, LP Gonmei, IAS (retd) who is at present a member of Manipur Public Service Commission also attended the function.
