CHANDEL, June 6: The Governor of Manipur, Vinod Kumar Duggal for the first time visited Chandel District Headquarters and inspected various developmental works taken up in the district today.
The Governor was accompanied by Chandel MLA Nunghlung Victor, principal secretary, Works, Ram Muivah and other officials. Chandel DC Th Chittaranjan Singh, SP, E Priyokumar Singh and other district officials were also present during the Governor’s visit.
“As I promised to visit the District Headquarters only after the government sanctions the amount for repairing the District Headquarter road. I came today because the government has sanctioned the amount to repair the road,” VK Duggal told people of the district.
“And I can come by helicopter but I choose to come by road to experience the hardships faced by the people while traveling the deplorable road and get myself hurt.”
Rs 12 crores have been sanctioned for the development of the Pallel-Chandel Road by the government and work would be started soon, he said when asked about the development work of the road.
The Governor also met with representatives of various CSOs, chiefs, district level officers during his maiden visit. Several organisations also submitted their respective memorandums.
He visited the District Hospital, District Sports complex, Autonomous District Council Office as well as the Mini Secretariat buildings.
At the district hospital, the Governor enquired the chief medical officer about the working condition of the hospital.
The Governor talked with other staff of the District Health Society, Chandel.
The Governor also visited the hospital ward and interacted with a patient.
After inspecting the ongoing construction of the 100 bedded District Hospital, he was assured by the contractors that construction works wold be completed on or before the month of October.
And at the District Sports Complex, the Governor questioned the assistant engineer for the delay in the completion of construction work of the Mini Stadium.
The Governor expressed his disappointment while interacting with staff of the ADC Chandel led by their CEO, on learning that some of them were irregular in their attendance while, many failed to provide satisfying answers to questions related to their department.
The Governor was even more disappointed when during an interaction, a District Level Officer, who had been posted some three months back to the district, was unable to name a river used as source of water for the district.
He expressed hope that his views expressed in the meeting with the DLOs would help them motivate themselves and deliver better services which the people need.
He further stated that things should have change when he comes back in October.
The Governor and his entourage decided to travel by the pathetic and deplorable Pallel–Chandel road to reach the head quarter town.
