IMPHAL, June 11: The Lamlongei Yaipha Thouda Nupi Lup today called a press conference at the Manipur Press Club asserting that there has been illegal encroachment at Napek Loukong Khanglapokpi Loukong Chingol since May 19, 2014.
Speaking to the media, spokesperson Thangjam Ratna said on May 12, 2014, the State government had approved to the diversion of 0.956 ha forest land for construction of TB and Leprosy Treatment Centre with building to accommodate patients at the foothills of langol Reserved Forest, opposite Bishop House at Mantripukhri, Village No 7, Lamlongei, Imphal East with certain conditions.
Continuing further she said, certain individuals have started to encroach on the Napek Loukong Khanglapokpi Loukong Chingol since May 19.
Now the local residents have failed to understand whether these encroachers have been authorised by the government, she said before appealing to the authorities concerned to stop such encroachment of forest land immediately.
She further said that the lup will take up severe forms of agitations if the encroachers are not stopped at the earliest.
